The International Command of the Blue Cross & Blue Crescent Corps (ICBC-Corps)

Role: ICBC-Corps Ambassador

The International Command of the Blue Cross & Blue Crescent Corps (ICBC-Corps) functions as the organised humanitarian service and response arm of the Blue Cross & Blue Crescent Movement. The ICBC-Corps operates in accordance with the Movement’s Constitution, Fundamental Principles, and applicable national and international legal frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of an ICBC-Corps Ambassador include, but are not limited to:

Humanitarian Representation & Advocacy

Promoting the humanitarian principles, mission themes, and programs of the Blue Cross & Blue Crescent Movement at national and international levels, in alignment with neutrality and impartiality.

International Liaison & Cooperation Support

Supporting dialogue and cooperation with civil society organisations, humanitarian institutions, academic bodies, and partner organisations for lawful humanitarian initiatives.

Program Support & Coordination

Assisting in the conceptual support, coordination, and outreach of humanitarian programs, campaigns, training initiatives, and emergency preparedness activities undertaken by the ICBC-Corps.

Crisis & Humanitarian Awareness Engagement

Contributing to awareness-building, information dissemination, and coordination support during humanitarian crises, disasters, and vulnerability-reduction initiatives, strictly within civilian and humanitarian frameworks.

Compliance & Ethical Conduct

Acting in full compliance with the Movement’s Code of Conduct, Fundamental Principles, and internal governance standards, ensuring transparency, accountability, and respect for human dignity.

Scope & Limitations

Honorary and humanitarian

The position is honorary and humanitarian, unless otherwise specified by written mandate.

Does not exercise executive authority

The Ambassador does not exercise executive authority, operational command, or financial control unless explicitly authorised in writing.

Does not confer UN representation

The role does not confer UN representation, diplomatic immunity, or governmental authority.

Solely for humanitarian

All actions are undertaken solely for humanitarian, charitable, and public-interest purposes.

Institutional Context

The Blue Cross & Blue Crescent Movement, through its legally registered entity Blue Cross & Blue Crescent Society (India), holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council UN-ECOSOC since 2024, in accordance with ECOSOC Resolution 1996/31. This status enables consultative engagement with UN bodies in line with established procedures.
