The National Blue Cross Societies and National Blue Crescent Societies (NBCS) form the operational foundation of the International Federation of Blue Cross & Blue Crescent Societies (IFBC). Established in their respective countries in accordance with national legislation and humanitarian principles, these National Societies serve as the primary humanitarian response organizations working directly with communities before, during, and after emergencies.
As members of the global Blue Cross & Blue Crescent Movement, National Societies are committed to protecting human life, reducing suffering, strengthening community resilience, promoting public health, advancing humanitarian diplomacy, and supporting sustainable development through impartial, independent, and volunteer-driven humanitarian action. Their work aligns with the humanitarian objectives of the international community while respecting national sovereignty and local priorities.
Every National Blue Cross Society and National Blue Crescent Society operates as an independent national humanitarian institution while cooperating through the IFBC global network to exchange expertise, coordinate international assistance, build institutional capacity, and respond collectively to humanitarian crises affecting vulnerable populations worldwide.
To build a compassionate, resilient and peaceful world where every community has access to humanitarian assistance, quality healthcare, disaster preparedness, social protection, environmental sustainability, and opportunities for sustainable development without discrimination.
To strengthen national humanitarian institutions capable of delivering effective, accountable, inclusive, and sustainable humanitarian services through community-based action, volunteer engagement, professional leadership, innovation, and international cooperation.
The strength of every National Society lies in its volunteers.
Professional volunteers, emergency responders, healthcare workers, youth leaders, humanitarian professionals, technical experts, and community members work together to deliver timely, efficient and life-saving humanitarian services across urban, rural and remote communities.
